Last Tuesday witnessed the twelve finalists announced for UK’s coveted alternative music award, the Mercury Prize. Among them are indie-darlings (and favourites to win) The xx, whose self-titled album blew away critics and fans alike for its understated and contemplative brand of dream pop. Albums by Foals and Mumford & Sons are also featured, both of whom will be hitting Australian shores next week as part of the Splendour in the Grass line-up. Other artists featured in the nominated listing include Dizzee Rascal, Wild Beasts, Villagers and Corinne Bailey Rae, while the winner will be announced on September 7th.
