Romance Was Born SS11/12 Lookbook
The Oracle', inspired by The NeverEnding Story and Erte.
Romance Was Born's SS11/12 collection - 'The Oracle' ? is inspired by epic eighties fantasy film The NeverEnding Story, as well as the work of 1920's Art Deco fashion illustrator Erte. The collection is a costume box of fun for aspiring empresses and flappers and, while it leans towards Romance's big is better, more is more aesthetic, it's their most 'wearable' offering yet (we're hesitant to use that word though because it seems to take some of the fun away - why can't we dress up every single day?). Among the graphic pieces, there's a softer femininity to be found, which feels like new territory for designers Luke Sales and Anna Plunkett but they pull it off with aplomb. The chambray and lace shirt dress is an unexpectedly girly inclusion, while the Old Hollywood Cleopatra dress is fit for a queen. Since those very first collections in 2005, Romance has very much made prints their schtick and 'The Oracle' is testament to how far they've come.
