smells like teen spirit

Tavi Gevinson makes us want to be a teen again with her e-zine, Rookie.

If only we had Tavi Gevinson on our side when we were trying to negotiate that awkward adolescent territory between being "not a girl, not yet a woman" (to quote Britney Spears, no less). The teen blogging sensation of Style Rookie fame has just launched her e-zine, Rookie, and while it's tailored for those going through puberty, that doesn't mean we can't all take a trip down memory lane and wax lyrical on our own coming-of-age experiences.

In her Editor's letter, Gevinson outlines the intentions of the website, in her signature sarcastic style. "Rookie is not your guide to Being a Teen. It is not a pamphlet on How to Be a Young Woman. (If it were, it would be published by American Girl and your aunt would've given it to you in the fifth grade.) It is, quite simply, a bunch of writing and art we like and believe in.... Rookie is a place to make the best of the beautiful pain and cringe-worthy awkwardness of being an adolescent girl."

The site 8 three new posts a day, five days a week, with a different thematic concern each month. The September edition is aptly about 'beginnings' and our favourite feature so far is the first day of high school recount including contributions from Zoeey Deschanel, Jack Black, Dan Savage and Lesley Arfin, among others. Bring on the bittersweet nostalgia.
