Sonic Youth Occupies Wall Street
Guitarist Lee Ranaldo documents the protests on their website.
As the Wall Street protests enter their fourth week, we are beginning to see more than just passionate anti-big business activists taking over the streets. Sonic Youth guitarist, Lee Ranaldo, has posted an assortment of snaps and sounds from the Occupy Wall Street protests on the group's website. Ranaldo is one of many celebrities who have faced the front line recently ? we're still not sure what to make of yesterday's appearance by Kanye West in his $335 Givenchy shirt - and says he's fascinated by what the movement has become:
"Living down in lower Manhattan has been pretty wild for the last decade, w the occupation of Zuccotti Park/Liberty Plaza being only the latest happening of note. I've been witness to many of the daily marches up to and back from City Hall and down to the site a number of times. What follows are, for now, merely some photos. I have a great sound recording I'm going to try and figure out how to post as well."
Ranaldo is certainly no stranger to supporting political and artistic expression, being a singer, guitarist, writer, record producer AND visual artist himself... Jeez, talk about creative innovation! Tim Robbins, Susan Sarandon, Mark Ruffalo and Gossip Girl star Penn Badgley have also made appearances at the protests.
The 'grassroots' protest movement is continuing to gain momentum in Zucotti Park, with increasing numbers attending the evening meetings - also known as 'the general assembly' - which feature a projection screen showing the set agenda, time limits for speakers and a visual of the group's Twitter feed in real time.
