sydney switches its lovelight on
Vivid Sydney's festival of light and music will be switched on and lighting up Sydney's streets from May 27th until June 21st. The festival comes to life with the lighting of the Sydney Opera House sails on the opening night on Thursday, which kicks off a fortnight of events.
The city streets and urban architecture will become the canvas on which brightly lit patterns and colours will be painted. Be sure to check out some of the festival's free offerings including Macquarie Visions (a beautifully lit twilight stroll on May 27th), New York Genius (a collection of vintage and modern photographs curated by Lou Reed between May 28th and June 11th), the 10X10 Project (where ten industry icons will pick ten emerging creatives as ones-to-watch between June 4th and 13th) and Fbi's Block Party (June 13th).
And if you are willing to splash your cash down by the habour, there is a bundle of one-off performances to grab tickets to including Noise Night (May 31st), Metric's Emily Haines with the Opera House String Quartet (June 1st) and the five-time Grammy winning gospel group the Blind Boys of Alabama (June 5th).
Whether your interest is the music and visual theatrics, the romance of a beautifully lit stroll, or you simply need to get out of the house, a visit to Vivid will be the highlight of your week. Written by Nic Burdekin.
