Table of Solace
Bababa International has teamed up with Goodgod Small Club to purvey an unparalleled meal/drink experience.
Bababa International are an ambitious bunch. So ambitious, in fact, that they claim to be a 'do-everything' art collective.
Unlike your stereotypically greasy haired, bedraggled arty type, the Bababas are not too busy ticking off their impossibly long to-do list to take some time out for personal hygiene. Cuticles looking a little worse for wear? In a bustling Hong Kong street you may have stumbled across a pop-up nail salon manned by a Bababa member diligently dishing out free mani/pedis to bewildered bystanders. In need of a good scrub? If you were within the vicinity of Firstdraft Gallery during the collective's Soap City project, you would have been issued with a piece of hand-made soap that simultaneously acted as a cleansing tool and an X-marks-the-spot treasure map leading to a communal rooftop shower.
Bababa International also take time out of their busy schedules to eat. In fact, they love to eat, and like an Italian nonna at Christmas, they're pretty altruistic about food. Warming both hearts and tummies, they transformed the basement of Kudos Gallery into a kitchen, whipped up steaming curries and couriered them across Sydney on bicycles. Every Saturday morning over the course of a month, they cooked up a big brekky at their studio residency, with eggs, bacon and other delectable goods exchangeable for no currency other than curiosity. It's not hard to connect with artists whose mission statement is "free waffles for all".
Now, in the name of seasonal friendship and goodwill, Bababa International have teamed up with Goodgod Small Club to purvey an unparalleled meal/drink experience. On the pending menu are corn chips, gift-wrapped tamales and spiced rum. A group of four eats for $50, while a group of eight eats for $100.
Table of Solace happens this Friday, Christmas Eve, from 5pm. Dinner is served promptly at 8pm. Goodgod Small Club is located at 55 Liverpool Street, Chinatown, Sydney CBD. Bookings can be made by emailing info@goodgodgoodgod.com.
