The Row Pre-Fall 12 Lookbook
The Olsens get it right again.
Always-cool twins Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen continue to get it right with The Row's Pre-Fall 2012 collection. The collection focuses on serious structure, tailoring and clean lines and aesthetically borrows from two eras but combines them seamlessly. There's a retro seventies vibe with chain belts, polo necks, fur, a burnt-orange velvet suit and flares. There's also a nod to nineties minimalism with leather tanks and dresses, high necklines, cable-knit skivvies, stiletto mules, strappy shifts and subdued tones.
Although the collection is tailored to within an inch of its life and centres around a minimalist palette, the use of contrasting textures keeps it interesting. Leather, wool, velvet, cotton, denim, silk and fur (fur, of course, fur ? remember it is the Olsens) all fit together with surprising ease. The coveted backpack is done this time in a tan alligator, which makes one wonder exactly how much this rendition will go for in lieu of last season's $39,000 black one.
