The Row Resort 2013 Lookbook

Trust the Olsens to make conservative cool.

The Row's Resort 2013 collection is made up of the kind of clothes that your grandmother would describe as "smart." To clarify, this is a good thing. Nasty put some clothes on, I told ya, as Destiny's Child once sang. There's this Meryl Streep in Woody Allen's Manhattan thing going on, with clothes falling into the 'sensible' category, rather than the 'frivolous'. This is not to say the collection's boring though, more so, timeless.

There's pants that could best be described as 'slacks', their greatest incarnation being in the royal purple outfit with the matching tunic and hard-cased bag, an 'ensemble' that your grandmother would love as much as she loves Antiques Roadshow. There's also turtlenecks, separates, and a classic court shoe (by Silvia Fiorentina). Big ups for the use of lilac, too. Trust the Olsens to make conservative cool.

Balancing out this no-nonsense simplicity are a few patent leather pieces, a striped poncho and a flowing gown in deep-magenta (the same one Ashley wore to the CFDAs). Even though your instinct reaction towards slashie designers is to hate them (because you ain't them), you've got to admit that Mary-Kate and Ashley know their fashions. The youngest designers to ever take out the CFDAs Womenswear Designer of the Year Award, the 25-year-old twins have presented yet another well-rounded collection for the respectable young woman. Now give it all to me before I have a bitch fit.
