T.I. Weighs In on Azalea vs Azealia
And Iggy apologises for "runaway slave master" lyric.
We reported a few weeks ago that emerging rappers Iggy Azaela and Azealia Banks were involved in a 140-character-or-less beef. The latter was pretty pissed off that the former had been named one of XXL magazine's 2012 Freshman Class, making her the first female rapper to ever be included on this list. Among her Tweets, Azealia said, "How can you endorse a white woman who called herself a "runaway slave master"?" Iggy has since claimed that the line, from song 'D.R.U.G.S', was in response to 'Look Out for Detox' by Kendrick Lamar where he raps, "when the relay starts I'm a runway slave." Iggy has apologised if she offended people, writing in a letter posted on Miss Jia, "It was a tacky and careless thing to say and if you are offended, I am sorry... Sometimes we get so caught up in our art and creating or trying to push boundaries, we don't stop to think how others may be hurt by it. In this situation, I am guilty of doing that and I regret not thinking things through more."
Signed to T.I.'s Grand Hustle record label, Iggy and T.I. recently appeared on Atlanta radio station Hot 107.9 where they spoke about the Twitter war. Iggy said rather rationally, "Instead of worrying about who else is on there, you should just be happy that I'm on there as a woman for women, and if you want to have your own achievement, work and have your own achievement. I can't take what's meant for you and you can't take what's meant for me." T.I. wasn't so level-headed, saying, "Strategically, if she really cares about a freshmen cover maybe she could hope that she'll suck enough to get shelved and then next year when the freshmen cover comes back around, maybe she'll still be a freshman. If you spend half of your day getting money and the other half of your day counting money, you ain't got no time in your day to worry about nobody else."
Azealia then took to Twitter...
Miss Jia then jumped in, defending Iggy...
Which then prompted this response from Azealia...
Iggy and T.I. didn't comment on the matter, with Azealia saying "Those r my last comments about it. The Internet is making me look like a villain." We'd be surprised if this is the end of it though. Here's a tentative 'stay tuned for more'.
