Tiah Eckhardt's New Tumblr, The Daily Knicker

We talk to the model about her new lingerie blog.

Tiah Eckhardt is a really hot model who has just started a Tumblr called The Daily Knicker where she takes photos of herself wearing underwear and gives said underwear a score out of 10. If you haven't left this page already to look at the photos then here are some more facts about Tiah: She's also a mother and a very talented writer who has penned her thoughts for Oyster, Grazia, Harper's Bazaar, The Sunday Times and more. This suggests that The Daily Knicker aims to be more than just a bunch of racy DIY photos, so we caught up with Tiah to ask the probing questions.

Melissa Kenny: We love The Daily Knicker. It's early days but can you tell us how it came about?
Tiah Eckhardt: All of my friends know about my insane lingerie collection and are always asking me what labels I like, what fits the best, what's worth it spending money on etc, so that combined with the fact my favourite part of the day is picking out what underwear I'm going to wear, I started doing little daily Facebook updates on what I'd chosen that day. Then people started demanding pictures and I gave in.

We also like your term 'intimate sartorial review'. Care to explain your current favourite intimate ensemble?
I honestly have far too many! I've gone to the point of co-coordinating not only stockings before, but shoes, hats, gloves, damn even a parasol or a fan or two! I think I put more effort into my underwear than most people do into a whole outfit sometimes, just to throw a LBD over the top. My favourite ensembles though usually seem to involve a steel-boned under bust corset, or at least some very elaborate straps and super-high shoes.

What are your Top 5 all-time lingerie labels?
Agent Provocateur, Fifi Chachnil, Chantal Thomass, Elegantly Scant, Berlei for basics. I'm always looking out for more though!

What you wear under your real clothes is an obvious passion of yours. Do you collect pieces?
Definitely. I've had sets custom-made, I've collected a bit of vintage 40's and 50's pieces and one of my favourite pieces is an authentic antique, whale-boned, Victorian-era corset. It should really be in a museum.

Thoughts on cotton?
Only if it's that cotton that's such high quality it feels like butter. And even then, only to sleep in.

I've had a few dreams about being in public wearing nothing but my underwear. Pretty mortifying. Ever had those?
No, but I wish I did! I think that means you have a fear of being exposed? Which obviously I don't...

What about public speaking, and imagining the audience in their underwear to combat nerves. That totally doesn't work, right?
I don't know if that would combat nerves so much as make me feel all sexy [laughs].

What undergarments will we never see you in on your blog?
Boyish underwear. Each to their own, but I just don't do it personally.

OK so as an underwear enthusiast, what do you most like to see men wearing?
Oooh, I'm going to sound like a total perve now, but honestly? Nothing. Jeans and nothing. Or if it has to be something, those things I call 'Joxers', you know, the ones that are like little shorts?

And what are the most criminal forms of mens undergarments?
Humourous, tacky, joke underwear. Or garish prints.

Any advice for men hoping to buy a special something for someone? It can be a pretty daunting task.
Look at her style. Is she girlish? Does she wear bright colours? Is she a basic black kind of girl? Her fashion sense will usually align with her taste in underwear. Don't just buy her some tacky thing YOU want to see her in. If all else fails, expensive, good quality, black lace is always a winner.

We especially enjoy what appears to be the blue side-light of what could be a television's glow in the 18th March post (below)... Can you divulge any handy tips for the intimate-webcam/iPhone-self-portraitists out there?
[Laughs] Work with what you've got. With the pictures, I just kind of want the viewers to feel like they're in the room with me. We're so used to air-brushed campaign pictures,; especially lingerie, it loses touch with reality. You can't identify with that or how it would work into your every day life. Now your girlfriend surprises you by wearing a beautiful set into the lounge room while you're watching TV; isn't that more appealing? More tangible?

What about your face - will we ever get a shot of that?
Maybe. But it's not really about me, or my face. Cropping just draws more attention to lingerie, which is the point. That and you know, I'm normally just bumming around at home with my hair tied back and no make-up on and personally that's not my best look.

Last one - where do you hope to see The Daily Knicker go in the near future?
I'd like to have enough pieces to keep posting every day! I hope it can become a go-to reference for people shopping for new knickers- I do the try, they do the buy kind of thing. Especially considering some of my sets are new, some are old, I can tell people what feels nice, what lasts and inevitably, what's worth spending their money on.
