V Magazine's Model Takeover

The new generation of models taking over from celebrities.

Anna Wintour is known to have first brought celebrity to the forefront of fashion magazines, blurring the line between A-listers and the fashion world. Since then, very rarely have we seen models gracing the covers of fashion magazines. Instead, we are generally granted with 'it' celebrities doing their best high fashion impressions.

Until now.

V Magazine has just released four alternative covers for their winter issue. For the first time in two years, models have replaced the celebrity subjects on their cover - and they've certainly supplied us with our model fix. Styled by Carine Roitfeld and shot by Terry Richardson, the alternative covers feature four pairs of gorgeous 'new generation' supermodels: Bambi Northwood-Blyth and Oyster covergirl Lindsey Wixson, Daphne Groeneveld and Saskia de Brauw, Sui He and Hanaa Ben Abdesslem, and Candice Swanepoel and Joan Smalls.

The alternate covers of V Magazine's 'The Model Issue' feature bright colours and prints from the likes of Louis Vuitton, Givenchy, Celine and Balenciaga. Richardson spoke to WWD about the covers: "It's a big moment of change in fashion. In some cases, you feel like it's the end of an era. I have been feeling this with cover subjects, and especially models. These eight girls are unique, not one is like the other. Candice is the only blonde and blue-eyed of this new generation of supermodels. Joan is black, Sui He is Asian, Hanna is North African. It's their diversity that makes each of them, to me, truly modern. They bring a new energy to fashion."
