Watch: Hedi Slimane's California Song Mini-Doco

A glimpse at what went into Hedi Slimane's 'California Song' exhibition.

For those of you who sometimes lose faith in the current state of creative industries, know that you can always turn to Hedi Slimane as a staple tour de force in the art of fashion. Whether you're perusing through his Fashion Diary, or ogling his photographs of all those people you wish you knew (including Frances Bean Cobain), it's plain to see that his impact on multiple creative disciplines is nothing short of profound.

A heavily frequented port of call for all kinds of cultural doses, his latest exhibition, California Song, attracted well-deserved attention when it opened in November last year. In a series of iconic black-and-white photographs and installations (including a performance space for bands like No Age), Slimane explores the urban youth culture of the 'California Period'.

In a belated celebration of the exhibition, Commonwealth Projects has released a behind-the-scenes mini-documentary about California Song. Incorporating footage from the opening night of the exhibition and a rehearsal from indie band No Age (for their performance as part of the exhibition), the video channels Slimane's creative spirit in a serene and moving documentation.

California Song runs through to January 22 at the MOCA Pacific Design Center in Los Angeles.
