Watch: Marc Jacobs on Yayoi Kusama
Marc Jacobs talks about Louis Vuitton's collaboration with the artist.
What happens when a polka-dot obsessed, avante-garde artist teams up with a fashion designer who's as influential as he is talented? While we're not (yet) one hundred percent sure what the results of the collaboration between Louis Vuitton and Yayoi Kusama will be, there's little doubt that 'eccentric' and 'coveted' will be the resounding buzzwords.
It would appear that Marc Jacobs himself shares a similar opinion. In part of an interview, the renowned fashion designer tells of meeting the 82-year-old artist for which he holds a life-long admiration, inspirations behind the collaboration and what we can expect from the merging of these two great minds come Summer 2012 when the limited edition collaboration is released.
Known best for a healthy obsession with repetition, pattern, and accumulation, Kusama's art consistently reflects organic and abstract concepts. Her dots will appear across the Louis Vuitton clothing, accessories, footwear, timepieces and leathergoods. The collaboration coincides with Kusama's current exhibition at The Tate, which runs through until June 5, later traveling to New York's Whitney Museum from July 12 - September 30.
