Watch: Why Doesn't MTV Play Music Videos Anymore?

"That complaint is literally old enough to drive a car right now."

Been watching MTV lately? Me neither! (Although, that has less to do with their bad programming and more to do with the fact that my laptop is my TV.)

You've probably noticed, though, that music has been missing from MTV (Music Television) for a looong time. It's been more than four years since MTV dropped the actual word "music" from their logo, and even before that reality TV (in the vain of the current hits Jersey Shore and Teen Mom) dominated the channel. You know, aspirational stuff.

Well many millennials or, as they were once known: members of the MTV Generation (ironic!), lament this fact. There's a shared feeling of nostalgia for the marathon music video sessions of the 90s, which back then were infrequently punctuated with more appealing real-to-life shows (like Reality Bites IRL) and animated gems like Beavis and Butthead and Daria.

Those days are over and this video, by YouTube comedy duo Brian Firenzi and Maria De Carmen, explains why. "I'm going to break it down for you and every other person born before 1995 — otherwise know as Not Our F***ing Demo Anymore... " says Michael Destiny, "Head of Programming at MTV". In Ask a Network Head, he crushes a twenty-something's Sierra-filtered memories of MTVs formative years. What he says is funny because it's true. Long live YouTube.
