What We're Looking Forward to in 2012

Our pop culture hopes and dreams for the new year.

What does the year ahead hold? We're looking forward to many things, for example: anything that Beyoncé releases including her baby, Kanye West's existence in general, and Raf Simons' possible takeover at Dior. What else are we looking forward to? Find out here. This is 2012 by Oyster.

What we're looking forward to: MUSIC
Playground Weekender [March 2-4]. Bon Iver at the Opera House.

Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons touring. [March/April]

Lil Wayne and everything that he does.

A new D'Angelo album and tour (Questlove recently assured Pitchfork that the album is 97% done and the tour will start next month in Europe).

Nicki Minaj releasing a solo album that is actually good. [February 14] New Ciara. In case you've forgotten the ways she is amazing, here is your reminder:

Another Britney album, please!

The death of electro in pop music, a return to the golden years of commercial R&B. (Aaliyah, Destiny's Child, et al).

Anything by Nicolas Jaar, Drake, James Blake, Jamie XX and The Field.

What we are looking forward to: MOVIES
Martha Marcy May Marlene [February 2] – In which Lizzy Olsen escapes a cult.

My Week With Marilyn. [February 16] – Michelle Williams, in contrast to LiLo's million dollar Playboy spectacular, purports a tasteful and authentic version of Marilyn Monroe possibly earning her an Oscar nomination.

The Perks of Being a Wallflower [Date TBD] – The film is based on the 1999 cult novel by Stephen Chbosky and stars an extremely palatable cast including Oyster #95 feature-boy Logan Lerman, and also Emma Watson, Nina Dobrev, Mae Whitman, Paul Rudd.

We Need to Talk About Kevin's Ezra Miller. Not too shabby.

Shame [February 9] – Watch Carrie Mulligan sing Sinatra while Michael Fassbender perves at some ladies in the trailer below:

The Hobbit [TBD, probably December] – The Office's Martin Freeman transformed into a young Bilbo Baggins, pre-Smeagol.

The Hunger Games [March 22] – The film, based on the massively popular Young Adult books by Suzanne Collins, starring Jennifer Lawrence.

Twilight: Breaking Dawn Part 2 [November 15] – Seeing the final Twilight movie in the cinema with all of the screaming teens will be a highlight of the year.

Battleship [April 18] – Rihanna will sink ships and save the world in Battleship, the 200 million dollar movie BASED ON A BOARD GAME. Alexander Skarsgård and Brooklyn Decker also star, while Peter Berg (Hancock, Friday Night Lights) directs.

Golden Globes [January 15] – David Brent will facilitate laughs/awkward silences when he plays host for the third time.

Academy Awards [February 26] – Billy Crystal will host the Oscars for the 400th time. Nominations announced January 24.

What we are looking forward to: TELEVISION
Girls [HBO, April] – Judd Apatow + Lena Dunham + HBO = Magic.

Game of Thrones. [HBO, April] Doctor Who [BBC, Late 2012] – New episodes of in which, we hope, the far-superior David Tennant will return to replace Matt Smith.

True Blood [HBO, Midyear] – New episodes of True Blood in which Chris Meloni joins the cast as a really, really old vampire. You may know Meloni as Detective Stabler on Law & Order: SVU, bisexual serial killer Chris Keller in Oz and chef Gene in Wet Hot American Summer.

What we are looking forward to: THE INTERNET
More episodes of Between Two Ferns.

More Drunk History.

More cats being hilarious (always).

More internet.

What we are looking forward to: IN REAL LIFE
Spending an evening with David Sedaris next month. [Find your ticket here]

Faster internet in the Oyster office. The next twist in the Courtney Stodden saga, which is bound to happen any day now.

The world not ending. Oyster's 100th issue!

This list was compiled from a series of emails and unsolicited verbal exclamations at the Oyster office.
